Mississippi Association Of Educators
2009 Fall Student Conference

Student President from University of Mississippi- Mary Zluticky
Welcomed all of our members and recognizes various schools attending the confrence. Thanked everyone for attending and introduced MAE President.

MAE President- Kevin Gilbert
Would like to thank all of its members for taking an intrest in teaching Mississippi students.

Student Vice President from Jackson State University- Amber Wick
Introduced speakers for the evening.

UniServ East- Joseph Chenault
Mr. Chenault spoke on Laws and Rights for Educators. There are many benefits of being insured by MAE. You are garaunteed to be represented by a NAE appointed lawyer. Mr. Chenault also gave some tips to make us aware of circumstances to avoid. These are just a few i found interesting...
  1. View your personnel file in the Fall/Spring, the district does not have to notify you if anything is added to your personnel file. Initial and Date each time you view it to make sure you know what is in it.
  2. The Buckley Amendment states that all students have the right to privacy. Ex: having your students to exchange papers and grade each others work violates this amendment.
  3. Be careful what you post on facebook, twitter, email and text. DO NOT check personal email at school. Ex: a teacher opened a happy birthday email and it had a man on a motorcycle in his "tighties" and she was docked 4 days without pay because she opened the email.
  4. NEVER leave the classroom unattended!!!!! You are responsible...You ARE liable whne there is a subtitute teacher in the classroom!
Outreach to teach- Mary Zluticky
Mary let us know about outreach opportunities that are available for anyone interested in making a difference in our Nation.

Professor and Chair of the Communications Dept. of Bellhaven College- Dr. Elayne Hayes Anthony
How to have a successful interview:
  • first appearance makes an impression before you even interview.
  • always start out how you can hold out
  • besure to ask questions, because it tells them about who you are as a teacher
  • state your weakness as a strength
